Bob Melder celebrated his 75th birthday on May 18, 2009, and on June 1, he and his wife, the former Mary Lou Flamino, celebrated their 52th wedding anniversary. They have five children, four grandchildren and one great-grandson. They live in Neshannock Township. He is retired from the News&Observer newspaper in Raleigh, North Carolina, and she is retired from Rex Hospital, also in Raleigh. He graduated from University of Delaware in 1966 and she graduated from New Castle School of Nursing in 1955.
