Peter R. Bongivengo, 83, of New Castle died Jan. 29, 2017, at UPMC Jameson Hospital. 

Born on April 3, 1933, in New Castle, he was the son of the late Vitus and Anne Panella Bongivengo. Surviving at home is his wife of 58 years, the former Dorothy D. Dalton, whom he married on Aug. 2, 1958. 

After 37 years, Peter retired from Shenango Pottery as a packer. He also served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during the Korean War era. A devoted member of St. Camillus Church, Peter was active in its activities. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge 455. He also enjoyed gardening. 

In addition to his wife, Peter is survived by his children, Andrea Englehart and husband David of Boalsburg, Pa., and Amy Bongivengo of New Castle; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Bongivengo of Georgia; brother, David Bongivengo and wife, Valgene, of New Castle; grandchildren, Michael P. Amabile and his companion, Ashlee Gaston, Samuel Englehart and Leah Englehart; and great-grandchild, Angelo Amabile.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Janet Bongivengo Veltre, and son, Steven Bongivengo. 

Interment was in St. Joseph Cemetery.
