Richard E. Cavalier Sr., 79, of New Castle died Jan. 11, 2014, at his residence.
Born on May 31, 1934, in New Castle, he was a son of the late Nicholas and Lucy Magliery Cavalier.
On Aug. 22, 1959, he married the former Mary Ann Sheridan. She died Feb. 28, 2009.
Richard retired from the U.S. Postal Service, Mahoningtown station, where he worked as a clerk. He was an Army veteran and was a member of the VFW Post 315. Richard was an avid golfer, playing in many local leagues, and had served as president for various leagues over the years. He was Catholic and a member of the St. Marguerites Club.
He is survived by four children, Richard Cavalier Jr. and wife, Elizabeth, of Spotsylvania, Va.; Chris Cavalier and wife, Susie, of Garner, N.C.; Jan Cavalier of New Castle and Beth Caravella and husband, Jim, of New Castle, and four grandchildren, Aleigha Cavalier, Amber Wall, Carley Price and Chase Caravella.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Norma Romanio; a brother, John Cavalier, and an infant son, Scott Joseph Cavalier.
Interment was in the veterans section of Parkside Cemetery.
Richard was the 81st classmate to walk down the aisle with 476 other classmates on graduation day. After his name in the Yearbook, it reads: "A man among men." Shop football.
