GRAFTON, Ohio — James J. Dawson, 82, of Grafton, died Sunday, January 17, 2016.

He was born April 13, 1933 in New Castle, and was a Grafton resident for most of his life. James was the owner of the former Dawson Ford-Mercury Auto Dealership in Grafton.

After graduation from New Castle high in 1952, he attended Youngstown State University, graduating in 1956.

He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, the former Mary Robinson, also a 1952 classmate; daughters, Joy (Merle) Hune of Grafton, Gayle Ropchock (Ken Meltzer) of Wakeman and Lynda (Jeffrey) Archer of Elyria; son, John Dawson of Grafton; granddaughters, Lori, Kati, Kristi, Jodi, Nicole, Ashley and Megan.

Burial was in Butternut Ridge Cemetery, Eaton Township.

Jim was the 120th classmate to walk down the aisle at graduation. After his name in the Yearbook, it reads: Home Room Representative 10; Hall Patrol 10; Color Guard 10; Track 10-12.
