Richard Lee "Dick" Glenn, 81, of Wynfield Commons, New Wilmington, died Saturday, July 30, 2016, at UPMC Horizon, Farrell, after a short illness.

He was born on Aug. 24, 1934, in New Castle, a son of John Clarence and Clara Belle Cover Glenn.

  He served two years in the Army in the 97th Signal Corps as a cryptographer with 13 months in Germany.

Dick lived for 47 years in Coolspring Township, Mercer County, before moving to New Wilmington in 2011.

He retired from the Bell Telephone Co. (now Verizon) in 1992 after 40 years of service. 

He attended King's Chapel United Methodist Church in New Castle.

His interests were woodworking and genealogy. He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Steelers and Pirates. He was a Mercer Little League coach and manager during the time his two sons played.

Dick is survived by his wife of 57 years, Aleata Jayne (Johnston); his daughter, Deborah Lee (Gordon) Smith of Katy, Texas; his son, Gregory Thomas and his wife, Julie (Schmersal), of Cranberry Township; four grandchildren, Natalie, Justin, Shannon and Morgan Smith, all of Katy, Texas; and his sister, Edna Mae Mack of Hermitage. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Richard Dwight Glenn; four brothers, Clarence Albert, John W., Chester W. (who died serving his country in the the Battle of the Bulge) and infant Francis Everett; and four sisters, Charlotte Jones, Clara Mae Hardisky, Marybelle Dalessandro and an infant Dorothea Belle Glenn.

Interment was in Graceland Cemetery, Neshannock Township.

Dick was the 183rd classmate to walk down the aisle at graduation. ​
