Joseph M. Heaney

Joseph M. Heaney, 82, of Neshannock Township died April 1, 2017, at Edison Manor Nursing Home. 

He was born on Oct. 8, 1934, in New Castle to the late Joseph and Margaret Nicholson Heaney. 
 
Joe, as he was affectionately known by his family and friends, married Elizabeth (Betty) Taggart, on Jan. 30, 1954, and she survives at home. 

He was employed at the Crane Co., later known as Pentex, for 24 years. In 1979, Joe became the owner and operator of Joe's Place, a general wholesale business that was first located on State Street in New Castle and is presently located on Route 422 in New Bedford. 

He was a member of St. James the Apostle Church and was a former member of the New Bedford Lions Club. 

Joe enjoyed boating, water skiing, bowling, hunting and fishing, traveling, especially to casinos, but most of all he loved dancing with his wife, Betty. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Diane (Charles) Bell of Pulaski, Debbie (Karl) Hermann of Wampum and Michele Barrett of New Castle; two sons, Donald (Jackie) Heaney of Beaver Falls and Michael (Connie) Heaney of West Middlesex; two sisters, Ann Badger and Mary Smith, both of New Castle; 10 grandchildren, Natalie (Bryan) Williams, Tiffany Bell, Justin Bell, Patrick (Jill) Heaney, Jennifer Heaney, Luke Heaney, Karl (Kaetlyn) Hermann, Amanda Hermann, Alan Hermann and Joseph McCollum; six stepgrandchildren, Thomas (Angel) Valenta, Shawn (Tiffany) Valenta, Ann (Craig) Marshall, Amy Williams, Laura Williams, Crystal (Tim) Christmas; and 12 great-grandchildren. 

Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery. 

Joe was the 198th classmate to walk down the aisle at graduation. After his name in the Yearbook, it reads: Band 10-11-12.
