From New Castle News

Catherine Doreen Miller, 80, of Hudson, Ohio, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2014.

She was born July 2, 1934, to Elizabeth (Dixon) and James Lynch in New Bethlehem, Pa.

At a very young age, Doreen showed her surprised parents that she had a lot of talent both in music and in sewing and designing clothing. At 7 years old, she would play the organ for the 7 o'clock morning Mass at St. Mary Church in New Castle before walking next door to start her day as a second-grader. She played the piano, organ and sang throughout her elementary and high school career.

After high school, she worked at Bell Telephone Co. Sometime in 1952, she went on a blind date with a friend from work and met her future husband. She married Lawrence D. Miller in November 1953. Their life together took her to Florida, Connecticut and back to Pennsylvania. All the while she sang, played piano and made her daughters' and her own clothes and re-upholstered any piece of furniture.

In 1975, she graduated from St. Francis School of Radiology, creating a new passion, becoming a radiologic technologist. Doreen later became a mammography tech, a position from which she retired in 2009.

She was pre-deceased by her parents; husband, Larry; sister, Agnes; brothers, James Edwin and Thomas.

She is survived by daughters, Marcia Miller of Stow, Ohio, and Laurie (Scott) Patterson of Hudson; grandchildren, Joshua (Cristi) Hodge of Sanford, N.C., Hadley (Cassie) Miller of Dayton, Ohio, and Galen Miller-Atkins of Pullman, Wash.; and stepgrandson, Morgan Jered Patterson of Hudson.

Doreen was the 260th classmate to walk down the aisle at graduation. After her name in the Yearbook, it reads: "The girl with the voice." Concert choir 11-12, Home Room Representative 12, Football Usher 12.
