Sam at the 50th Reunion

Samuel “Sam” Manos, 80, of Deltona, Fla., died Monday, Nov. 17, 2014, at his residence, surrounded by his family after a year-long struggle with cancer.

Born in New Castle, his early years were spent working for his parents’ local shoe shine shop. He also served in the Navy aboard the USS Lake Champlain. He sold advertising for the New Castle News, retiring in 1997. He then worked for the Beacon in Deltona, Fla., and retired from there in 2013.

 Survivors include his wife of nearly 59 years, Lillian June Williams; his mother, Lena, 101; a sister, Rosalie Georgeadis of Arlington, Va.; a daughter, Renee Manos of New Castle; two sons and three daughters-in-law, Stephen and Dianna Manos of Oviedo, Fla., Sam and Courtney Manos of Westchester, Ohio, and Regina Manos; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

 He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Manos; a son, Mark Manos; and two brothers, George and Michael Manos. There will be a graveside service in the spring in New Castle.

Sam was the 272nd classmate to walk down the aisle at graduation. After his name in the Yearbook, it reads: Hall Patrol 10-11-12.
