Josephine Melichar Carofino, 79, of Ellwood City died Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at UPMC Passavant Hospital.

She was born March 2, 1934, in New Castle to the late John and Katerina Badurick Melichar.

Josephine was a member of the Holy Redeemer Parish, Ellwood City.

She worked for 27 years at the Lawrence County Courthouse in the Prothonotary's Office.

She was a past member of the St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Ellport, where she served as the secretary for many years. Josephine also had been a long-time volunteer with the Ellwood City Hospital Auxillary.

Josephine is survived by a sister, Sister Anna Melichar O.S.F. of Mt. Assisi Convent in Bellvue; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Carofino, whom she married in August 1965 and whom passed away Oct. 29, 1990; three sisters, Mary Melichar, Sister Julia Melichar O.S.F., and Catherine Melichar; and three brothers, John, Cyril and Joseph Melichar.
Entombment was to be in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, St. Peter's Mausoleum.

Josephine was the 303rd classmate to walk down the aisle at graduation. After her name in the Yearbook it reads: “Josephine has quiet and easy-going ways and a pleasant air.” Business Efficiency 12.
