Nels "Skip" Olson

Nels O. "Skip" Olson Jr., 78, of Easton, Pa., died Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at his home.

Born on Jan. 6, 1935, in Indiana, Pa., he was a son of the late Nels O. Olson Sr. and Catherine Jones Olson.

He and his wife, the former Phyllis G. "Putt" Gray, celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary on Oct. 1, 2013.

Skip retired from Chrylser Corp., where he was employed for 32 years. He attended Grove City College and served with the Marine Corps during the Korean War.

Skip was an antique automobile enthusiast. He was a member of College Hill Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of LVRAACA Car Club, Slate Belt Mighty Mopar Club and Safety First Volunteer Fire Co. A Mason, he was a 50-year member of Lodge of the Craft Westminster No. 433, F&AM; Valley of New Castle Scottish Rite Consistory; and a Past Master of Builders, New Castle.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Nels "Skipper" Olson III and his wife, Rian, of Harper Woods, Mich.; three sisters, Lois Holt of Walnut Creek, Calif., Marie Peterson and her husband, John, of New Wilmington and Ola Root and her husband, Bob, of Milford, Ohio; three grandchildren, Tyler, Grace and Elizabeth Olson; and nieces and nephews.

Interment was to take place in Graceland Cemetery, New Castle.

Skip was the 328th classmate to walk down the aisle at graduation. After his name in the Yearbook, it reads: "Love a lot of girls a little."
