Veronica May Tempesta Mone, 80, of Okinawa Drive died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at her residence.

Born Aug. 27, 1933, in New Castle, she was a daughter of the late Pasquale and Jennie Scrim Tempesta.

Surviving at home is her husband, Harlan A. Mone Sr. whom she married June 27, 1987.

She was a member of St. Vitus Church. After high school, she worked for Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. for 17 years. In 1986, she graduated from the Deputy Sheriff’s Training Program in Carlisle, Pa. She retired from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, where she had worked for 30 years, 19 of those years as chief deputy sheriff for Sheriff George Sigler.

She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi International and received the Order of the Rose. Veronica was also a member of the New Castle Power Squad and completed seven boating courses. During retirement, she enjoyed being a volunteer for St. Francis Hospital.

In addition to her husband, Veronica is survived by a stepson, Harlan A. Mone Jr. of New Castle; two brothers, David Tempesta and Francis Tempesta, both of New Castle; three grandchildren; nine nieces and nephews; 16 great-nieces and great-nephews; and 21 great-great-nieces and great-great nephews.

In addition to her parents, Veronica was preceded in death by six sisters, Louise McIltrot, Adeline Tommelleo, Bertha Adamo, Margaret Tempesta, Laura Pavia and Annabelle Iovanella; two brothers, Eugene Tempesta and Alessio Tempesta; and a nephew, Eugene Tommelleo.

Entombment was to take place at Parkside Cemetery and Mausoleum.

Veronica was the 431st classmate to walk down the aisle at graduation. After her name in the Yearbook it reads: Y-Teens 11-12, Goal Post Staff 12.
