William Daniel "Dan" Whiteford, 71, of Erie, a member of the Class of 53, passed away Oct. 7, 2006, in West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh, after an extended illness.
He was married to Patricia Trumble Whiteford, a member of the Class of 52, for 52 years.
Dan was born Nov. 20, 1934, in New Castle to the late William and Elizabeth Whiteford.
He was a military veteran, serving in Germany from 1955 to 1957.
After 29 years of service, Dan retired in 1991 from the Prudential Insurance Co., where he received many awards and recognitions.
He was a member of Perkins Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, boating, golfing, the Pittsburgh Steelers and spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Cynthia, and her husband, Dr. Sheldon Freedman, of Las Vegas; two sons, William and his wife, Karen, of Fairview, Pa.; and James and his wife, Vicky, of Millcreek, Pa.; eight grandchildren, Danielle, Emily, Colin, Daniel, Matthew, Amy, Kelsey and Bryan; one brother, Thomas, and his wife, Virginia, of Mancos, Colo.; one sister, Peggy, of New Castle; and many cousins, nieces, nephews.
He and his wife, friends and family enjoyed traveling in their motor home to Alaska, Nova Scotia and every state within the United States.
